Job Overview: Senior Electrical Engineer
City Light & Power, Inc. is expanding its engineering team and is in search of a dedicated Senior Electrical Engineer with a Professional Engineer (PE) license and over 8 years of experience in the engineering and utility sectors.
As a comprehensive electric utility solutions provider, City Light & Power, Inc. boasts over two decades of expertise in electrical utility system management, enhancements, maintenance, and operations.
We deliver a broad spectrum of power system engineering services to various clients, including investor-owned utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, government entities, industrial sectors, and commercial enterprises.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and develop sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and intricate commercial/industrial power distribution networks.
2. Generate concept design alternatives, perform engineering calculations, analyses, and create engineering estimates for small-scale system enhancement projects related to substations and distribution systems.
3. Create and review complex electrical system models and validate findings and recommendations from various system studies.
4. Draft electrical specifications for significant electrical equipment.
5. Construct system models for large-scale power systems using ETAP or similar software and conduct various power system analyses/studies.
6. Prepare bills of materials and technical specifications for diverse electrical projects. Schedule and conduct field assessments with clients, subcontractors, and construction teams to ascertain project requirements.
7. Execute field evaluations for estimate preparation.
8. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and standards pertinent to utility power distribution systems.
9. Update and manage GIS databases for extensive electrical distribution systems.
10. Conduct site surveys for major upgrade initiatives, develop concept designs, and present these designs to management and clients.
11. Prepare cost estimates for large-scale electric distribution and substation initiatives.
12. Stay informed about utility industry standards and regulations, ensuring compliance with all applicable standards and codes for operations and maintenance, as well as new installations.
13. Analyze electrical fault occurrences, power quality challenges, and system loading scenarios, assisting teams in implementing corrective measures.
14. Maintain a thorough understanding of power system protection and relaying strategies for electrical distribution systems.
15. Engage in the estimate review process with both internal and external stakeholders.
16. Support construction teams throughout the project lifecycle in tracking and understanding the basis of cost estimates.
17. Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support to foster their professional development.
Project Management Responsibilities:
1. Develop project construction schedules.
2. Submit requests for information to clients.
3. Serve as the primary contact for projects, facilitating the design and review processes.
4. Coordinate meetings, provide scheduling updates, submit deliverables, and address outstanding items as requested by clients.

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with a focus on power systems is required.
2. Professional Engineer (PE) License is mandatory.
3. A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in the electrical utility industry is essential.
4. Extensive knowledge of medium voltage electrical substations and distribution systems is required.
5. Proficiency in power system analysis, distribution system modeling, and protective device coordination is necessary.
6. Experience with blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services is required.
7. Ability to create and maintain construction project schedules using Microsoft Project.
8. Familiarity with ETAP or similar software is preferred.
9. Strong team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills is essential.
Travel Requirements:
Willingness to travel up to 20% to client sites.
Additional Requirements:
1. U.S. citizenship is required.
2. A valid driver's license is necessary.
3. Candidates must be able to obtain Military Base Security Access Clearance.
Compensation and Benefits:
We provide a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and life insurance, a 401k plan with company contributions, paid time off, and paid holidays.
Salary Range:
$138,000-$168,000 based on experience, plus eligibility for the Short Term Incentive Plan. We reserve the right to adjust compensation based on factors unrelated to sex.
