Position: Senior Electrical Engineer

Location: Remote

City Light & Power, Inc. is expanding its engineering division and is in search of a dedicated Senior Electrical Engineer with a Professional Engineer (PE) license and over 8 years of experience in the engineering and utility sector.

As a comprehensive electric utility solutions provider, City Light & Power, Inc. has a rich history of over two decades in managing electrical utility systems, enhancements, maintenance, and operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and intricate commercial and industrial power distribution networks.
  • Create alternative design concepts, perform engineering calculations, analyses, and provide engineering estimates for minor system improvement initiatives.
  • Review and develop complex electrical system models and validate findings from various system studies.
  • Draft electrical specifications for significant electrical equipment.
  • Utilize ETAP or similar software to create system models for large-scale power systems and conduct various power system analyses.
  • Compile bills of materials and technical specifications for diverse electrical projects, coordinating with customers and construction teams to ascertain project needs.
  • Conduct field evaluations for estimate preparation.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of principles, practices, and standards related to utility power distribution systems.
  • Update and manage GIS databases for large-scale electrical distribution networks.
  • Perform site assessments for major upgrade projects, develop design concepts, and present these designs to management and clients.
  • Prepare cost estimates for large-scale electrical distribution and substation projects.
  • Stay informed about utility industry standards and regulations, ensuring compliance for operations and maintenance, as well as new installations.
  • Analyze electrical fault events, power quality issues, and system loading scenarios, assisting teams in implementing corrective measures.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of power system protection and relaying schemes.
  • Engage in the estimate review process with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support construction teams throughout project lifecycles by tracking and clarifying cost estimate foundations.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support for their professional development.

Project Management Responsibilities:

  • Develop project construction schedules.
  • Submit requests for information to clients.
  • Act as the primary contact for projects, facilitating the design and review processes.
  • Coordinate meetings, schedule updates, submit deliverables, and address outstanding items as required by clients.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with a focus on power systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in the electrical utility sector.
  • Expertise in medium voltage electrical substations and distribution systems.
  • Proficient in power system analysis, distribution system modeling, and protective device coordination.
  • Experience with blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation for project time/cost/labor estimates.
  • Ability to create and maintain construction project schedules using Microsoft Project.
  • Familiarity with ETAP or similar software.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills.

Travel Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel up to 20% to client sites.

Additional Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Must obtain Military Base Security Access Clearance.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • We provide a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, life insurance, 401k with company contributions, paid time off, and holidays.
  • Salary range: $138,000-$168,000 based on experience, plus eligibility for a Short Term Incentive Plan.
