Job Summary

This role involves conducting thorough investigations into suspected tax law violations, from initial suspicion to the conclusion of any legal processes. Responsibilities include analyzing and validating account activities using technical data analysis methods, such as examining tax returns, financial records, employment records, corporate structures, and legal/collection actions to ensure compliance with tax laws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed research and validation of account activities
  • Examine tax returns, financial records, employment records, corporate structures, and legal/collection actions
  • Investigate reports of suspected tax law violations
  • Prepare comprehensive investigative reports
  • Gather evidence to support administrative actions or criminal prosecutions
  • Collaborate with the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) and testify in court proceedings
  • Provide tax analysis and research support for other investigations involving crimes against the Kansas Department of Revenue
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Two years of experience in investigating, fact-finding, accounting, auditing, or enforcing state tax laws
  • Successful completion of an extensive background check
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong verbal communication skills in challenging situations
  • Professional writing abilities to create detailed reports
  • Personal characteristics such as being personable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
