Position Overview:

The Staff Attorney is responsible for ensuring adherence to legal standards, reporting obligations, and enforcement measures within the institution. This role involves providing legal guidance and recommending modifications to policies and procedures in light of evolving laws and judicial precedents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the General Counsel to interpret and navigate the constitutional, statutory, and regulatory frameworks relevant to the institution.
  • Offer legal and policy advice across various domains, including employment law, student legal matters, intellectual property, real estate, contracts, organizational governance, and civil rights.
  • Conduct investigations into compliance-related complaints and coordinate with relevant departments to address concerns.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review contracts and affiliation agreements to ensure compliance with institutional policies.
  • Manage responses to public records requests while maintaining confidentiality and discretion.
  • Develop and deliver training programs focused on compliance and ethical standards.
Qualifications:

Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from an ABA-accredited institution is mandatory. Candidates must possess a license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction or obtain licensure within a specified timeframe.

Experience: A minimum of one year of experience as a practicing attorney or in-house counsel within a complex organizational setting is required.

This position primarily involves sedentary work, requiring occasional physical exertion. The role necessitates effective communication with various stakeholders and the ability to navigate the office environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in employment law and risk management, particularly within the higher education sector, is advantageous.

Training Requirements:

Completion of mandatory training sessions related to campus security and Title IX compliance is expected.
