Job Overview

Position Title: General Counsel

About the Role: The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) is seeking qualified candidates for the role of General Counsel. This position is responsible for managing significant administrative and professional legal functions, as well as directing and coordinating the agency's legal operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise legal operations, including the preparation of cases for court and administrative hearings.
  • Draft contracts, legislation, administrative regulations, and policies.
  • Provide legal counsel to the agency, Board, and ODMHSAS staff.

Employment Type/Compensation:

  • Full-time position
  • Annual Salary: commensurate with qualifications and experience
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM
  • FLSA Status: Exempt

Minimum Qualifications:

General Counsel I:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law institution.
  • 10 years of legal practice experience.
  • 3 years in a managerial attorney role or equivalent.
  • 2 years in a supervisory attorney capacity or equivalent.
  • Active membership in the Oklahoma Bar Association is required.

General Counsel II:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law institution.
  • 11 years of legal practice experience.
  • 4 years in a managerial attorney role or equivalent.
  • 2 years in a supervisory attorney capacity or equivalent.
  • Active membership in the Oklahoma Bar Association is required.

General Counsel III:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law institution.
  • 12 years of legal practice experience.
  • 4 years in a managerial attorney role or equivalent.
  • 3 years in a supervisory attorney capacity or equivalent.
  • Active membership in the Oklahoma Bar Association is required.

  • Willingness to undertake job-related travel as necessary.
