Job Summary

As a Supplier Development Engineer at Caterpillar, you will be responsible for assessing supplier quality and ensuring that all products meet manufacturing specifications and legal standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Generate reports on supplier quality, monitoring defect rates and areas that can lead to potential flaws
  • Guide suppliers to reduce defect rates
  • Research potential vendors, assessing their manufacturing environment, practices, and procedures
  • Conduct supplier quality control audits to ensure compliance
  • Support suppliers in improving their performance through process enhancements, implementing process controls, and developing quality assurance plans
Requirements
  • Effective communication skills, understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques
  • Problem-solving skills, knowledge of approaches, tools, and techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational, or process problems
  • Process improvement skills, understanding and insight into evaluating current product quality and production methods
  • Quality orientation, knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques
  • Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) knowledge, ability to determine whether a supplier can manufacture products that meet quality requirements and standards consistently
