Job Summary:

The Advanced Materials Technology (AMT) Development Team at Caterpillar's Technical Center campus in Mossville, IL, is seeking a skilled Electrification Materials Engineer to lead the development of new technologies and resolve issues related to generator and motor components, batteries, and other power electronic components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the selection, application, and validation of materials technologies to meet performance and cost targets for electrified machines and products.
  • Project leadership and execution, including establishing project success criteria, managing project plans and budgets, communicating with stakeholders and suppliers, and meeting committed project deliverables.
  • Provide engineering technical support and problem-solving related to materials, supplier capability, and specification development.
  • Direct work and establish collaboration with external labs and universities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science & Engineering.

  • Prior experience in automotive or heavy equipment manufacturing.
  • Experience and education related to permanent magnet materials, non-metallic materials, non-ferrous alloys, conductors, dielectrics, adhesives, and similar.

Product Testing:

  • Documents test process and results; prepares and analyzes defect-tracking reports.
  • Tests components for compliance with functional requirements and established conventions.
  • Develops product-testing procedures; participates in selecting testing environment and tools.
  • Knowledge of electrified products design or performance.
  • Skills in battery enclosure and support systems fabrication, joining, and testing techniques.
  • Skills in electrical property characterization techniques.
