Position Overview

The Senior Infrastructure Specialist is tasked with the proficient provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and upkeep of system hardware and software alongside the associated infrastructure. The role encompasses primary support responsibilities that may include, but are not limited to, specific environments such as VMware, Cisco, Cloud, O365, IBM iSeries systems administration, and LAN support. Engage in technical research and development to foster ongoing innovation within the infrastructure. Monitor and assess server performance, optimizing both virtual and physical servers to ensure peak performance. Maintain high levels of availability and security for system hardware, operating systems, software applications, and related procedures, thereby enabling staff to operate efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer server and application systems for the organization, including LAN support, virtualization, network monitoring, and employee access. Stay informed and develop a deep understanding of the systems and applications currently in use, addressing training needs and associated challenges.
  • Conduct capacity planning and performance monitoring on systems, collaborating with management to uphold high-performance standards and availability.
  • Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve network, hardware, and software issues across systems, input/output devices, and workstations.
  • Support software development by analyzing, recommending, and crafting innovative and cost-effective solutions for software utilization. Collaborate closely with IS contractors during needs analysis and software development.
  • Oversee the maintenance of newly developed applications and may contribute programming expertise in creating new applications.
  • Ensure the successful deployment, effective usage, and efficient operation of information systems and technology, interfacing with vendors and management.
  • Safeguard the integrity and security of enterprise data across host computers, multiple databases, and during data transfers, in alignment with business needs and industry best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support security initiatives and audits.
  • Execute and test system backups and restores, applying necessary patches to both virtual and physical machines.
  • Manage input/output devices, including printers and tape libraries.
  • Research emerging products, services, and technology standards.
  • Participate in the weekly 24/7 helpdesk support on-call rotation.
  • Perform additional related duties as required and assist with special projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
  • Preferred 8+ years of IT technical experience, including 3 years in administering VMware vCenter, vSphere, Horizon View, and Windows Server.
  • Experience and knowledge of current security practices are preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong technical expertise in Microsoft operating systems, Active Directory, and Office 365.
  • Management and administration of server and desktop virtual environments (vSphere/ESXI).
  • Preferred experience with IBM iSeries, including knowledge of PGP encryption, SFTP, and backup automation software.
  • Experience with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is a plus.
  • Certifications in O365, Cloud, VMware, or Cisco are advantageous.
  • Experience with storage area networks is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in installing, supporting, troubleshooting, and utilizing software products.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, execute tasks, and manage multiple interrelated systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service orientation.
  • Adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Skilled in working within a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks accurately, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work well with management and colleagues.
