About the Role

Pacific Rail Services is seeking a skilled Rail Operations Coordinator to join our team at the Union Pacific Dallas, TX Terminal. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient movement of rail equipment and the accurate placement of rail cars to facilitate the loading and unloading of trains in the rail yard.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Train Engineer with the movement of rail equipment (locomotives, rail cars, tracks, etc.) within the rail yard in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintain a Safe and Efficient Rail Yard by moving rail cars and freeing rail tracks for incoming rail traffic.
  • Manage Rail Track Switches to direct rail cars to appropriate tracks.
  • Connect and Disconnect Rail Air Hoses as needed to consolidate rail cars efficiently.
  • Lead Job Briefings with the Supervisors and crew prior to work beginning.
  • Ensure Compliance with HAZMAT and OSHA Regulations, including reporting any incidents to the supervisory team immediately.
  • Wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), such as safety vest, safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety toe boots.
  • Maintain Clear Communication with Train Engineer/Operator and other crew members while moving locomotives with verbal, hand, or radio signals.
  • Participate in Daily Safety Briefings.
  • Inspect Rail Equipment to ensure there is no damage and notify the operator and supervisor immediately if there is.
  • Handle Rail Equipment Safely and Efficiently.
  • Maintain Awareness and Organization within the rail yard, including attention to the ground surface (potholes, debris, and/or slippery conditions).
Requirements
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Advanced Knowledge of the Railroad Industry from vocational education, apprenticeship, on-the-job training, or similar experience.
  • Pass a Vision and Hearing Test.
  • Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills to coordinate with a variety of individuals.
Work Environment
  • Ambient Outdoor Environment with varying conditions (rain, snow, ice, heat, wind, cold, etc).
  • Travel Throughout the Yard and Transfer Station by walking and/or driving.
  • Loud Noise Level in the work environment.
  • Hazardous Work Environment requiring physical ability to see and hear fast-moving equipment and move safely.
