Job Summary

RailWorks is seeking a skilled Truck Driver Class A CDL/Laborer to join our team. As a key member of our rail construction crew, you will be responsible for the safe operation of industrial trucks and the transport and delivery of construction materials to railroad construction job sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate industrial trucks to transport and deliver construction materials to railroad construction job sites.
  • Perform a variety of tasks involving physical labor at construction sites, utilizing hand and power tools and other equipment.
  • Drive a 750 crew truck with air brakes and haul heavy equipment and rail construction material.
  • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones.
  • Remove and replace track and track components, cut rails to specific lengths, and drill holes through rails for insertion of bolts.
  • Raise rails to allow for tie removal and replacement, remove and replace ballast, and slide and align tie plates.
  • Correct deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge, and observe condition of tracks, track beds, and track right of way to detect and report problems or defects.
  • Dig holes and trenches, sort track material for loading and unloading, and assist operators with signaling equipment.
  • Comply with all company and railroad safety rules, practices, and regulations.
  • Operate commercial trucks on public roadways in accordance with prevailing traffic laws and regulations, and according to company safety policies.
  • Inventory and inspect goods to be moved to confirm quantities and conditions, secure cargo for transport, and maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience operating commercial motor vehicles in a railroad construction or related environment.
  • A valid Commercial Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Driving Record.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to safety requirements and procedures.
  • Ability to travel local, some overnight.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as standing, lifting, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, and handling of materials, equipment, and tools.
Working Conditions

May be exposed to live track/trains and high voltage. Must wear appropriate safety equipment, such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection, as required by the company. May be exposed to harsh weather conditions and loud noise.
