About the Talent Team

The Talent Team primarily engages in administrative functions to ensure that the workforce at New York Cares is compensated, secure, and efficient. Beyond these visible tasks, the team plays a crucial role in shaping the organizational culture from within. In addition to managing payroll, facilitating the onboarding and offboarding processes, and overseeing employee benefits, the Talent Team influences organizational strategy and identifies top-tier professional development opportunities for staff.

Position Summary

New York Cares is looking for a Talent Specialist to enhance the effective execution of administrative functions. This role involves supporting payroll processing, managing employee benefits, and collaborating with various departments on recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding activities. The Specialist will also conduct research on best practices in these areas and offer recommendations for enhancements. Reporting to the Director of Talent, this position is integral to our operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate payroll operations, including data processing, reporting to payroll services, and managing check verification and distribution.
  • Act as the main contact for benefits administration, overseeing staff needs, evaluating benefits cost-effectiveness, and creating resources such as quick reference guides.
  • Develop and conduct training sessions on Talent policies, procedures, and benefits.
  • Coordinate recruitment efforts with department heads and senior management, which includes drafting job descriptions, advertising open positions, reviewing applications, scheduling interviews, conducting reference checks, and preparing offer letters.
  • Conduct regular assessments of industry standards and best practices in Talent management, providing proactive recommendations for the integration of suitable practices.
  • Identify and implement operational enhancements to optimize Talent processes and documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and city regulations and standards within specified timelines.
  • Participate in a flexible hybrid work schedule, with a minimum of two days in the office.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, recognizing that individuals from historically marginalized backgrounds may be less likely to apply if they do not meet every criterion. We encourage all qualified individuals to apply, even if they do not meet all qualifications.

  • 2-5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a nonprofit, educational, or governmental setting.
  • Proficient in key human resources functions, including employee relations, talent acquisition, and compensation and benefits.
  • Understanding of labor and employment laws and policies in New York State and New York City.
  • Familiarity with HR software, such as ADP or similar applications.
  • Experience with recruitment platforms like Indeed and LinkedIn Recruiter.
  • Strong ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive information.
  • PHR certification is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Forms, etc.).
  • Experience with project management tools, preferably Asana.
  • Commitment to the mission of New York Cares and personal and professional development.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $65,000-$72,000, commensurate with experience. This salary is part of a comprehensive compensation package that includes generous paid leave, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, access to e-learning courses, and tax-advantaged accounts.
