Job Overview:

The Precision Prototype Fabricator is tasked with the creation of high-accuracy prototype components and assemblies. This position requires the operation of both manual and CNC machinery, along with the ability to interpret detailed technical drawings, collaborating closely with engineers to transform conceptual designs into tangible products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prototype Manufacturing: Fabricate prototype components utilizing manual and CNC milling machines, lathes, grinders, and various other tools.
  • Technical Document Interpretation: Analyze and interpret blueprints, CAD models, and other technical specifications to ascertain the requirements for prototypes.
  • Machine Configuration: Configure machinery, including tool selection, fixture setup, and part alignment, to guarantee precision and accuracy in production.
  • Quality Control: Conduct inspections of finished products using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and CMMs to ensure adherence to design specifications.
  • Collaborative Development: Engage with design engineers and product developers to enhance designs, propose modifications, and resolve any challenges encountered during the prototyping phase.
  • Material Assessment: Choose suitable materials for machining based on design specifications, including metals, plastics, and composites.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Carry out routine maintenance on machining tools and equipment to ensure optimal functionality and durability.
  • Process Documentation: Keep detailed records of machining processes, tool adjustments, and any changes made throughout the prototyping phase.
  • Safety Standards: Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a secure working environment.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a machinist, ideally in a prototype or research and development setting.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in operating both manual and CNC machinery, with a strong grasp of machining techniques, tooling, and materials.
  • Blueprint Proficiency: Capable of reading and interpreting complex blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to work independently and collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Detail Orientation: Exceptional precision and attention to detail in all machining and quality assurance activities.
  • Educational Background: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a machinist apprenticeship or technical program is preferred.
  • Physical Capabilities: Ability to lift heavy materials, stand for extended periods, and work in a loud environment.
  • Computer Literacy: Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and basic computer operations for programming and documentation.
  • Weight Handling: Capability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Schedule:
Tuesday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM

This position requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Final offers will be contingent upon the ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
