Job Overview

Position Objective:

The primary responsibility is to layout and construct metal assemblies and weldments by interpreting technical drawings along with various specifications and verbal directives to achieve this objective.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes tools such as MIG and TIG welders, plasma cutters, arc welders, chop saws, and oxyacetylene torches to cut and assemble metal components.
  • Designs and fabricates fixtures that assist in the production of parts in varying quantities.
  • Keeps detailed records of completed work, including hours worked, to support accounting processes.
  • Operates according to specifications and design standards, including verbal instructions, drawings, and blueprints; performs standard calculations related to work dimensions.
  • Employs a range of measuring instruments; ensures accurate dimensional tolerances based on drawings and takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping.
  • Creates complex parts with multiple interrelated dimensions, compound angles, and exacting tolerances, requiring careful layout and selection of hand tools.
  • Plans the sequence of tasks to complete assignments and improvises production aids as necessary to enhance operations.
  • Proposes design modifications that improve manufacturability and production processes to the appropriate personnel.
  • Monitors routine inventory of supplies used in welding operations through stock inspections and orders new stock as needed.
  • Maintains a tidy and organized workspace and ensures all equipment is serviced according to maintenance schedules and established protocols.
  • Fosters a positive work environment by communicating professionally and collaborating effectively with customers, clients, colleagues, and management.
  • Adheres to safe work practices and ensures compliance with safety regulations.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned by management.

Welding Inspector Responsibilities:

· The welding inspector must hold certification through AWS and possess knowledge of codes such as AWSD1.1, AWSD1.7, and ASMEB31.3.

· Evaluates whether a weld meets the acceptance criteria outlined in relevant codes, standards, or specifications.

· Manages qualification records.

· Supervises non-destructive testing procedures.

· Ensures that appropriate materials are available during testing phases.

· Must be well-versed in welding processes, procedures, qualifications, materials, and testing limitations.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship or formal training in welding/fabrication.
  • Six to eight years of welding experience or equivalent background.
  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector credential.
  • Understanding of the properties and characteristics of metals used in cutting, welding, and forming, as well as various welding fluxes and rods.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols related to occupational hazards and trade practices.
  • Proficient in the use of measuring tools/gauges and cutting equipment.
  • Capable of operating vehicles such as trucks, forklifts, and overhead cranes.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, routers, and geometric tolerances.
  • Strong communication skills, basic math proficiency, and computer literacy.
  • Commitment to high standards and excellence.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical abilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow effectively.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Physical capability to perform labor-intensive tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs. and performing repetitive actions.
  • Availability for overtime work, including weekends as necessary.
