**Job Summary**

The Village Hotel Sous Chef is a key member of the culinary team, supporting the Executive Chef in managing the entire kitchen operations for the Village Social restaurant. This role involves daily service, holiday menus, group functions, and special events.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Assist in managing and operating the Village Hotel kitchens.
  • Support performance management, development, hiring, and training of kitchen department staff.
  • Schedule staff according to staffing guides, budget, and forecasts.
  • Monitor guest satisfaction levels, focusing on quality, value, variety, and timeliness.
  • Control food costs by purchasing wisely, pricing appropriately, portioning accurately, and limiting waste.
  • Requisition necessary supplies.
  • Maintain equipment and store it properly.
  • Perform inventory of perishable goods, non-perishable dry goods, and capital goods.
  • Monitor inventory to ensure stock rotation and avoid loss due to spoilage.
  • Maintain a clean working environment, adhering to sanitation, health, and safety standards.

**Requirements**

  • High school diploma required; additional education, training, and/or certification(s) preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years related culinary management experience in a fine dining environment and/or luxury hotel/resort (4 or 5 star rating).
  • Experience in inventory/cost controls, fiscal planning, and knowledge of profit and loss reporting; previous responsibility for food purchasing highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering world-class internal/external guest service; proven leadership skills; ability to build/develop/motivate teams a must.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; conveys information, ideas, and suggestions effectively, clearly, and concisely at all levels; solid public speaking skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, project/time management skills; prioritizes work, adapts, multi-tasks; keen attention to details with focus on quality and service.
  • Proactive, exercises good judgment; creatively problem solves; anticipate, addresses, and troubleshoots issues; builds positive working relationships across departments.
  • Represents the company professionally at all times.

**Physical Requirements**

Requires moderate physical activity, handling of average-weight objects, up to 50 pounds, and standing and/or walking for up to ten (10) hours per day.

Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

The employee may work in an office, restaurant, or kitchen, or outdoor environment with fluctuations in temperature and conditions (e.g., heat, cold, and/or humidity).
