Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse - Specialty - OR to join our team at the University of Miami's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. As a Registered Nurse - Specialty - OR, you will play a critical role in delivering patient-family centered care in a culturally competent manner, utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and evaluate patients, documenting nursing care and reporting symptoms and changes in patients' condition and vital signs.
  • Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses, conditions, and physician orders.
  • Review, evaluate, and report diagnostic tests to assess patient's condition.
  • Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Prepare patients for and assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Consider patient age and culture during patient treatments and provide necessary information regarding treatment plans.
  • Nurture a compassionate environment by providing psychological support.
  • Perform patient tests and administer medications within the scope of practice.
  • Administer and maintain accurate records related to medications and treatments as per regulatory bodies, policies, procedures, and physician orders.
  • Communicate patient care plans in a timely manner to patients and families, as well as appropriate team members, ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines.
  • Use available resources to assist in discharge planning.
  • Plan, prioritize, and adjust assignments to accomplish goals and render superior patient care; seek assistance when needed.
  • Safely operate medical equipment.
  • Serve as a preceptor and assist new staff in the provision of care to help them acclimate to the healthcare environment and a direct patient care role.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Florida Registered Nurse License.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certification (ACLS).
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, nursing care methods and procedures, and health and safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems, maintain effective interpersonal relationships, and communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
