Open Postdoctoral Opportunity in Breast Cancer Research

Focus Area:
Tumor Immunology

A postdoctoral opportunity is currently available in the laboratory of Dr. Dev Karan within the Department of Pathology, focusing on innovative research in the molecular mechanisms of breast cancer.

Research Overview:
Our lab is engaged in several compelling projects that delve into tumor immunology, immunotherapy, and the molecular characterization of cancer cell biology. The primary goal is to enhance understanding of therapeutic strategies targeting cancer.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. or M.D. in cancer biology, molecular or cell biology, or related biomedical sciences. Candidates must demonstrate self-motivation, the ability to design and execute experiments, and proficiency in preparing and presenting research findings at scientific meetings, as well as in writing manuscripts.

Essential Research Skills:
Research skills should encompass a variety of cell and molecular biology techniques, along with immunological assays. Experience in tumor immunology/immunotherapy, particularly with live animal models or mouse models relevant to breast cancer, is advantageous.

Research Ethics:
It is imperative that the applicant conducts research activities in compliance with ethical standards and regulations, while also mentoring students and technologists as required.

Postdoctoral Appointment Characteristics:
- Facilitate the transition to career independence by developing professional skills necessary for pursuing an independent career.
- Create an Individual Development Plan (IDP) that aligns the postdoc's career aspirations with the mentor's research objectives.
- Engage in basic, clinical, or translational research projects, focusing primarily on research activities.
- Publish research findings during the appointment.
- Note that the postdoctoral position is temporary, with a recommended maximum duration of five years, excluding family medical leave.

Compensation and Benefits:
Postdoctoral researchers are valued members of the institution, and appropriate compensation, healthcare, and benefits will be provided, regardless of funding sources.

Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, and implement complex research studies and protocols.
- Participate in discovery projects and coordinate research activities.
- Lead and manage research projects, ensuring organization and analysis of data.
- Prepare scientific reports and manuscripts based on research outcomes.
- Engage in discussions with the principal investigator and research team to evaluate data validity and refine methodologies.
- Maintain laboratory supplies and manage vendor negotiations.
- Supervise laboratory personnel, providing training and guidance as needed.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong foundation in biology, chemistry, mathematics, statistics, and data management.
- Proficient in complex problem-solving, critical thinking, and effective writing.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Ph.D. in a scientific discipline or M.D.
- Experience: No prior experience required.
