Job Title: Director of Annual Giving

MOXI, The Wolf Museum of Exploration + Innovation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Annual Giving to join our development team. As a key member of our fundraising team, you will play a critical role in advancing our mission by securing annual gifts from foundations, corporations, and individuals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a portfolio of annual donors to engage, steward, and ultimately lead to their philanthropic support of MOXI's mission.
  • Lead donor/foundation/corporate stewardship, partnerships, and create opportunities for engagement, volunteerism, and support to move individual donors through the pipeline through regular interactions and expressions of gratitude.
  • Conduct prospect research and qualification, including prospect identification, producing donor profiles, and developing cultivating strategies.
  • Represent MOXI in the community to expand and deepen a network of strong relationships with existing and potential community partners, funders, and supporters.
  • Manage Spring and Fall appeal planning, strategy, communication, and execution, including writing polished and compelling copy for large-scale mailings and emails.
  • Serve as thought leader for fundraiser/friendraiser events throughout the year, and supervise the project management for such events (e.g. event logistics, soliciting in-kind support, writing copy, drafting underwriting and sponsorship proposals, procuring RSVPs and guest names, following up with donors on silent auction donations, attending/working events as a front-facing MOXI representative, etc.)
  • Manage the grant submission process: ensure grant requests are submitted and reporting requirements are met.
  • Align membership program with fundraising efforts to create a pipeline for donors, identify donor prospects, and elevate members to donors. Ensure proper representation of donor identity, commitments, recognition, and benefits fulfillment.
  • Create fundraising packets and presentation materials so they are ready for use and are customized for each donor.
  • Be an inclusive leader who values and acts to advance diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion as they work with community members, internal staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Support a culture of cross-organization communication, collaboration, and information sharing.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements, Skills & Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with the concepts, tools and requirements of major gifts and annual campaigns.
  • Diplomacy and discretion required as well as a respect for and understanding of complex donor and Board relationships.
  • Conscientious and detail-oriented; must have an appreciation of the necessity of following through with paperwork, record-keeping, documentation, and donor confidentiality.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize varied tasks in a manner that most effectively serves the needs of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; must be receptive to the ideas of others and able to work cooperatively to prioritize tasks and accommodate many different and conflicting concerns.
  • Passion for creating a world-class museum that is recognized as a truly outstanding educational experience.
  • Enthusiasm for working in an organization where change is frequent, the structure is evolving, and flexibility, teamwork, and good humor are absolute necessities.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new systems and adapt to emerging technologies.
  • Awareness of issues relating to access and inclusion and the ability to build inclusive and accessible programs.
  • Spanish fluency a plus.
Education and Experience requirements:
  • 5+ years' fundraising experience in a museum or similar setting.
  • At least 2 years in a management position.
  • Experience with grant writing or reporting.
  • Experience with donor management systems/database or customer relations management system.
  • Experience managing special events.
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline.
Additional Information:
  • This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule of both weekdays and weekends, holidays, evenings, and some early mornings.
  • Predictable and timely attendance is required.
  • Position must be able to bend, squat, and lift up to 50 lbs.; work with multiple technologies; stand for extended periods of time; troubleshoot and problem solves; and communicate effectively and courteously with a variety of people verbally and in writing.
