General Overview

This role involves performing essential cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure the cleanliness and functionality of various facilities. The individual will be responsible for a range of custodial duties, including but not limited to waste disposal, floor care, window cleaning, restroom sanitation, and furniture upkeep. Additionally, the position requires the identification of maintenance issues and communication with the appropriate departments for resolution. Providing courteous service to colleagues and the public is a key aspect of this role.

Work Environment

The job entails working indoors with cleaning agents and solvents. The individual may encounter various conditions, including dry environments, exposure to odors, and occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Tasks may require physical activities such as crawling, kneeling, and climbing.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintain the overall cleanliness of assigned facilities.
2. Sweep, mop, polish, and vacuum floors in designated areas.
3. Clean walls, windows, and fixtures, which may involve using ladders.
4. Sanitize restrooms and ensure supplies are stocked and functional.
5. Remove and dispose of waste in designated locations, ensuring cleanliness of workspaces.
6. Conduct major cleaning tasks, including floor stripping.
7. May operate light-duty vehicles for waste disposal.
8. Assist in setting up spaces for events and meetings.
9. Provide guidance and training to less experienced staff on proper cleaning techniques and equipment use.
10. Maintain records of work performed and materials used, and suggest preventative maintenance measures.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess at least one year of experience in custodial or related fields. The ability to read, write, and follow instructions is essential. Familiarity with custodial tools and materials is required. A valid driver’s license is necessary, with the expectation of obtaining a Florida driver’s license within a specified timeframe after hiring.

Skills and Abilities

- Physical ability to lift weights between 15-44 lbs.
- Proficient in using hands and maintaining good vision and hearing.
- Knowledge of cleaning processes, supplies, and safety precautions.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
- Experience in training and supervising peers is a plus.
