Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Dispatcher Clerk to join our team at Calaveras County. As a Dispatcher Clerk, you will play a critical role in receiving and transmitting radio and telephone communications, processing emergency calls, and dispatching law enforcement and non-fire personnel and equipment as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and process emergency calls from the public, determining the nature and location of the emergency and dispatching appropriate units.
  • Maintain contact with all units on assignment, monitoring their status and location, and answering non-emergency calls for assistance.
  • Enter, update, and retrieve information from various computer systems, including the NCIC computer.
  • Provide information to the public regarding vehicular registration, driving records, and warrant information.
  • Monitor and assist other departments within the county, including the District Attorney's Office, Probation Department, Road Department, Child Protective Services, Park Rangers, and Animal Control.
  • Assign case numbers and maintain daily logs, as well as check files for required information.
  • Appear in court as a witness for departmental actions related to dispatch/responder matters.
  • Maintain records for emergency disaster plans, updating manuals and OES policy references as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of responsible experience dealing with the general public.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.
  • Willingness and availability to work variable shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Successful completion of courses of instruction as required by departmental policies, including 120 hours of Basic Dispatching and 40 hours Emergency Medical Dispatch training.
