Position Overview: This role involves specialized technical tasks related to the assessment, repair, and routine upkeep of buses, trucks, and other transportation equipment. The technician may provide guidance to junior staff and occasionally oversee shop operations, with supervisory support available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, disassemble, repair, or reconstruct engines, transmissions, and various components of the drive system.
  • Identify and rectify issues within electrical systems, drivetrains, suspension, steering, braking, and air conditioning, ensuring the correct parts are procured for repairs.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Assume supervisory duties in the absence of the lead mechanic.
  • Perform tasks associated with lower-level mechanic roles as required.
  • Conduct independent repairs on-site to ensure vehicles are returned to service promptly.
  • Design and modify parts and equipment as necessary for effective repairs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of operating a vehicle as part of job functions.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, and extreme temperatures.
  • Physical stamina to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds, with assistance for heavier items.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Possession of a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required, with air brake and passenger endorsements to be obtained shortly after hiring.
  • Ability to obtain necessary certifications within the first year of employment.
