Job Overview

We are seeking a Lead Software Architect to become a vital member of Procore's Product & Technology Team.

Procore's software solutions are designed to enhance the experiences of individuals in the construction sector, and our Product & Technology team is the driving force behind our innovative, globally recognized platform.

Our customer-focused group integrates engineering, product management, design, data analytics, security, and business systems.


In this position, you will collaborate across various disciplines to develop the essential Project Management tools that empower construction professionals to connect their teams and project data, facilitating improved decision-making and efficiency.

This role presents a unique opportunity to engage closely with our customers and devise innovative solutions to distinct challenges that will significantly influence the construction industry.

You will have the chance to create comprehensive customer experiences while also developing innovative and scalable services and solutions that support the future growth and success of Procore's platform.


As a Lead Software Architect, you will provide technical guidance over multiple key products and initiatives, ensuring they consistently meet the needs of Procore's clientele while upholding a high standard of quality.

Success in this role will involve taking responsibility for the long-term architecture, health, stability, and quality of your team's domains, codebase, and systems.


Your responsibilities will include anticipating the future needs of our customers while prioritizing your role as a mentor and advocate for technical excellence, quality, and engineering efficiency.

You will be accountable for ensuring that the team's technical strategy is clearly defined and aligns with the broader engineering community's objectives.


This position reports to the Director of Engineering for Project Management.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable software and data solutions to fulfill business requirements.

2. Enhance the performance and scalability of existing systems to accommodate business expansion.

3. Architect and implement robust integrations between diverse systems and services, ensuring compatibility with legacy code and systems.

4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish technical strategies and roadmaps that yield high-impact customer outcomes.

5. Contribute to the establishment of standards and development principles across multiple teams and the organization as a whole.

6. Advocate for best practices in software development, code reviews, and quality assurance processes.


7. Focus on fostering consensus throughout our engineering teams and facilitate the education of our business partners through the creation of technical documentation and presentations that communicate architectural and design decisions, clearly articulating both long-term and short-term trade-offs.


8. Engage hands-on in our codebase 40-60% of the time while also serving as a force-multiplier within our engineering organization by guiding and mentoring fellow engineers.


Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred, or equivalent experience.

- 12+ years of experience in designing and implementing complex systems and business application integrations with SaaS solutions (including enterprise integration patterns, middleware frameworks, and SOA web services).

- 12+ years of proven success in software development and building cloud-based, highly available, and scalable enterprise services.


- You possess the ability to anticipate challenges and take the initiative to explore areas of potential conflict and opportunities for acceleration.

- Advanced familiarity with developing and scaling applications using Ruby/Ruby on Rails.

- Advanced skills in database technologies such as AWS RDS, DynamoDB, and PostgreSQL, along with experience in large-scale data migrations.

- Hands-on experience implementing data streaming technologies and tools such as Kafka, Flink, and Spark at scale.

- Proficient in software development lifecycle processes and experienced with scrum, agile, and iterative methodologies.

- Excellent communication skills, fostering collaboration with teammates, partners, and stakeholders to advance team objectives. Cultivates an environment of collaboration, mentorship, and knowledge sharing within the team.
