About You and the Role:

As a Principal Engineer at SailPoint, you will be an integral part of our engineering leadership team, steering the design and development of our Identity Security Platform, Atlas. Your role will be crucial in aligning business objectives with technical execution. You will need to have a profound understanding of our business environment, including market trends, customer requirements, and strategic aims. Your main responsibility will be to convert this business insight into actionable technical specifications and innovative design solutions.

You are deeply passionate about platform architecture and committed to delivering reliable, scalable microservices and infrastructure for SaaS products. You will collaborate with technical teams across SailPoint to design systems capable of processing billions of events and supporting millions of users. You thrive in technical leadership, design, and solving intricate challenges, while also enjoying hands-on coding.

Roadmap & Timeline for Success:

Within the first 30 days, you will:
  • Onboard into your new role and familiarize yourself with our product offerings and technology stack.
  • Gain insights into the Identity Access Management space.
  • Research our competitors and their product strategies.
  • Build relationships with peers and leaders to understand current challenges and motivations.
  • Analyze the current state of the identity security industry and propose architectural designs to address common engineering challenges.
  • Learn about our Top 5 Project Initiatives.
  • Engage with stakeholders to comprehend our business goals and product roadmap.
By 90 days:
  • Take charge of the technical architecture of our SaaS Platform, providing leadership across various domains.
  • Set standards for engineering excellence by promoting best practices in design and coding.
  • Look beyond immediate tasks to share a forward-thinking technical vision.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of our product and technology strategy.
  • Prioritize projects and define scopes of work while considering the longevity of your solutions.
By 6 months:
  • Mentor and coach team members regularly.
  • Lead multiple significant projects.
  • Provide technical leadership while delivering high-quality code.
  • Conduct thoughtful critiques of design documents.
  • Consistently meet targets and deadlines, ensuring deliverables exceed expectations.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and introduce relevant innovations to your team.
  • Define and execute a new Engineering Technology Strategy.
  • Lead the implementation of new services and product offerings with top-tier engineers.
  • Communicate technological advancements to executives and stakeholders.
  • Translate overarching business strategies into actionable technical roadmaps.
  • Be recognized as a subject matter expert in SailPoint Services, providing training and speaking at conferences.
  • Focus on talent development by hiring, mentoring, and coaching new team members.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience in a Software Platform Architect role, focusing on large-scale commercial, enterprise-class, multi-tenant distributed SaaS software.
  • Deep knowledge of modern technologies and eagerness to learn new ones (e.g., Golang, Docker, Redis, Postgres, GraphQl, Python, Kafka, Terraform, Timescale, AWS).
  • Extensive experience in modern SaaS architecture, REST, API concepts, design patterns, and system reliability.
  • Experience in transitioning from monolithic to distributed systems.
  • Product-oriented mindset, capable of transforming complex business requirements into user-friendly software.
  • A collaborative demeanor with strong coaching and mentoring abilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • A commitment to lifelong learning and sharing knowledge with your team.
