Since our establishment in 2002, LCPS has successfully managed two K-12 public charter schools - Lighthouse and Lodestar - serving nearly 1,600 students in East Oakland. The Role

  • Guarantee exceptional educational experiences for all students, especially those with disabilities, by supervising academic initiatives and nurturing data-informed, equity-centered teams.
  • Empower stakeholders by partnering with school leadership to cultivate educational specialists and student support personnel, resulting in a diverse, effective team and enhanced student outcomes.
  • Lead teams, offer professional development, coaching, and mentorship in special education and multi-tiered support frameworks.
  • Possess expertise in navigating complex special education cases and a comprehensive understanding of IDEA and Educational Code.
  • Oversee programs to ensure commitments to students with disabilities are met through an equity-focused lens.
  • Apply an equity perspective to manage intricate cases and utilize data analysis to address disparities.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the execution of a robust, inclusive special education program across multiple schools to promote academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development for all students.
  • Supervise specialized initiatives related to special education and the development of the MTSS model.
  • Implement data-driven methodologies to improve instructional programs, track progress, and guarantee student success.
  • Provide expert guidance on complex cases by participating in meetings and leading IEPs.
  • Assist in resolving conflicts with stakeholders, ensuring adherence to IDEA and LCPS policies.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of high-quality IEPs, supporting school teams in crafting effective educational plans.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in special education preferred.
  • Special Education or Pupil Services CA credential preferred.
  • Extensive experience in special education and leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of special education law and best practices.
  • Experience with El Dorado Charter SELPA and SEIS is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.

Supervision

This position reports to the Senior Director of Special Education and Specialized Programs.

Commitment

Full-time salaried exempt 12-month position, following the 233-day school year with approximately 5 weeks of paid holidays in addition to 10 days of summer vacation.
