Clinical Nurse Specialist

The Registered Nurse at VA Ear Nose Throat Associates is a vital member of our healthcare team, reporting directly to the Clinical Director. This role is essential in delivering high-quality nursing care to patients who have undergone outpatient surgical interventions.
Key Responsibilities- Receive and assess patient reports from the anesthesiologist and circulating nurse upon patient arrival in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
- Monitor and document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature upon admission and throughout the patient's recovery.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, focusing on airway management, cardiac status, consciousness levels, and the condition of the surgical site.
- Verify and execute physician orders, administer medications, and perform necessary procedures as prescribed.
- Provide discharge instructions and prescriptions to patients or their designated caregivers.
- When patients meet discharge criteria, facilitate the discharge process by coordinating with the anesthesiologist or surgeon, discontinuing intravenous access, and ensuring proper education on discharge instructions.
- Complete all necessary documentation accurately and promptly.
- At the end of each shift, assist in preparing the PACU and preoperative areas for the following day and ensure all items are returned to the front desk.
- Identify and report any malfunctioning equipment to the Clinical Director.
- Assist in inventory management by receiving and storing medical supplies as needed.
- Ensure safe disposal of contaminated materials in accordance with established protocols.
- Participate in post-operative follow-up calls and assist with the operative log as assigned.
- Engage in the Adverse Incident reporting process as required.
- Act as a Preoperative Nurse as directed by the Clinical Director.
- Contribute to committee activities as assigned and assist with additional duties as necessary.
- Current unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or a Compact State.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
- A minimum of one year of experience in an ambulatory surgery or acute care recovery setting.
- Combination of medical office and procedure room settings.
- Well-lit and ventilated workspaces with adequate space for patient care.
- Exposure to common communicable diseases and conditions typical in a clinical environment.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, and reach for extended periods (6-8 hours daily).
- Engage in intermittent physical activities including walking, light lifting, and maneuvering equipment.
- Capability to bend and kneel as required for patient care.
