Position Overview

AECOM is seeking a seasoned Environmental Engineer to join our Industrial Remediation Practices team, focusing on the design and operation of remediation systems, as well as conducting soil and groundwater investigations.

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in remediation system design and management, including oversight of operations, maintenance, and monitoring. Proficiency in data management and technical report generation is essential. This role demands strong technical and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with engineers and scientists on diverse remediation projects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are crucial for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and engineering of environmental water collection, conveyance, and treatment systems.
  • Stormwater management and sediment control engineering, including permitting processes.
  • Provide engineering support for both private industrial and municipal remediation initiatives.
  • Coordinate and oversee field investigations prior to design.
  • Experience in remedial technology design, particularly in water and wastewater systems.
  • Hands-on experience with PFAS-related projects throughout the project lifecycle, including:
    • Investigative studies and environmental media sampling.
    • Treatment and remedial design, including feasibility evaluations and pilot studies.
    • Implementation of remedial solutions, including construction support and permitting.
    • Operational evaluations and maintenance planning for treatment systems.
  • Modeling and analysis of remediation performance and subsurface conditions.
  • Act as a senior technical resource and advisor within the team.
  • Prepare and review engineering reports, plans, calculations, and specifications in accordance with established engineering practices.
  • Facilitate high-quality, cost-effective work by developing study and design procedures.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
  • Estimate construction costs and technical efforts for projects.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of design calculations and drawings.
  • Prepare technical specifications and contribute to project budgeting and scheduling.
  • Interface with clients and regulatory agencies through report writing.
  • Manage environmental fieldwork, including remediation system operations and subcontractor oversight.
  • Ensure adherence to construction quality assurance and control principles.
  • Support project managers with budgeting, scheduling, and scope development.
  • Exhibit flexibility to engage in various projects, demonstrating a positive attitude and commitment to health and safety.
  • Assist in business development activities, including pre-proposal meetings and site visits.
  • Travel to project sites as required, which may involve overnight stays.
  • Implement project deliverable requirements in accordance with AECOM's Quality Management System.
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with clients and colleagues.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a closely related field with 6+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Direct experience with PFAS.
  • Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test and background check.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of this role.
  • FE or EIT certification is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting and remediation system design.
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong focus on health and safety practices.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification is preferred.
