Service Manager Job Summary

The Service Manager is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the service department at a profit. This includes handling customers, local and national fleet accounts, maintaining and training qualified technicians and support staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise service department personnel, review and analyze performance results, and take corrective action to improve performance and increase profits.
  • Hire, train, and certify technicians and support staff in various areas of expertise.
  • Sell labor and parts to achieve profit targets.
  • Assure accurate and complete paperwork, repair orders, and supporting documents.
  • Maintain records relating to government regulations, OSHA, hazardous waste removal, and environmental policies.
  • Plan and participate in team meetings and safety meetings.
  • Assist technicians in diagnosis of customer mechanical problems and recommend repairs.
  • Maintain superior customer relations and handle complaints in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Follow factory and vendor warranty policies and administer policy adjustments in the best interest of the customer and Kenworth Sales Company.
  • Solicit additional service business by phone and personal contact.
  • Work in harmony with other department and corporate managers.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English instructions and information.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • College degree or technical certifications desired.
  • Minimum 5 years working experience in a Heavy Duty Truck Repair Facility or Dealership with 5 years in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Working knowledge of current heavy duty truck repair methods and diagnostic procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with basic computer software programs.
  • Experience reading financial statements.
  • Professional personal appearance.
