Job Title: Data Center Facilities Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Facilities Engineer to join our team at Serigor Inc. in Washington, DC. As a key member of our data center operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our critical infrastructure, including electrical, environmental, and data capacity systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and report on power and HVAC-related alerts, ensuring prompt notification to the operations team.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair activities to minimize disruptions to call floor operations.
  • Review and provide guidance on change requests related to upgrades or maintenance that may impact call floor operations.
  • Generate weekly reports on critical infrastructure performance.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices in data center and 911 center operations, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Facilitate failover testing on critical infrastructure and 911 applications.
  • Monitor and report on cybersecurity risks affecting the call floor.
  • Manage patch management for all servers supporting the call floor.
  • Organize and direct contract operation support functions, involving multiple, complex, and inter-related project tasks.
  • Manage data center projects, including vendor coordination, progress tracking, and deadline management.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure optimal performance and reliability of equipment.
  • Monitor and analyze power usage, temperature, and humidity levels to identify and resolve issues or inefficiencies.
  • Manage equipment installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement, ensuring high-quality work and minimal disruption.
  • Develop and implement procedures and protocols for equipment maintenance, emergency response, and disaster recovery.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of equipment, maintenance activities, and infrastructure changes.
  • Oversee all aspects of the data center's critical physical infrastructure.
  • Ensure high-quality work and minimal disruption to internal and external customers.
  • Identify improvement areas in existing and next-generation data center designs, addressing industry standards, constructability, and sustainability.
  • Forecast future requirements to support evolving information technology solutions for redundant emergency operations.
  • Draft or review RFPs related to data center design and equipment upgrades.
  • Provide feedback for data center improvements as required.
  • Enforce standards for electrical and mechanical systems, including cable management, airflow, and physical security in a critical infrastructure environment.
  • Facilitate data center audits for facility infrastructure.
  • Provide technical expertise for root cause analysis and remediation recommendations.
  • Investigate incidents involving failures or interruptions of IT infrastructure, overseeing resolution and preventative actions.
Requirements:
  • Education in information technology, computers, or electrical engineering.
  • Data center and call center engineering and management experience.
  • Understanding of Data Center Infrastructure Tier Standard Topology.
  • Excellent computer skills, including basic understanding of WAN, LAN systems, servers, routers, and switches.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and patch management.
  • Understanding of electrical systems involved in critical data center operations, including feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS, units, PLC, PDUs, and Static Switches.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical and mechanical infrastructure required to support data center environments.
  • Proficiency in design and operation of data center critical facility infrastructure, including UPS, cooling, airflow, cable management, and backup power systems.
  • Ability to present complex engineering subject matter to a non-technical audience.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to communicate with all levels of the organization.
Skills:
  • 16+ years of experience in progressive consulting leadership roles, providing full lifecycle services in enterprise environments.
  • 16 years of experience managing, coordinating, and establishing priorities for entire project lifecycles.
  • 15 years of experience managing complex projects.
  • 15 years of experience in public safety radio, data networks, and facilities (HVAC, power, and physical security).
  • 5 years of experience with architectural design/remediation of new/existing industrial or commercial or other complex technical projects.
  • 2+ years of experience with architectural design of mission-critical projects.
  • 3 years of experience in data center engineering.
  • 3 years of experience designing and deploying data center infrastructure, including power distribution, cooling systems, and equipment layout.
  • 3 years of experience conducting regular inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting of data center infrastructure to identify and resolve issues.
  • 2 years of experience managing data center projects, including vendor coordination, progress tracking, and deadline management.
  • 5 years of experience managing scope, schedule, cost of network optimization, etc.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices, including TIA-942 and Uptime Institute Tier Standards.
