Nursing Assistant Trainee Program
A Brief Overview
In this role, you will support nursing professionals in delivering patient care as guided by your training and validation in line with established protocols and procedures. You will also be responsible for maintaining necessary equipment and supplies.
Key Responsibilities
- Shadow and assist the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Execute tasks relevant to your assigned department, excluding invasive procedures and medication administration.
- Conduct diagnostic assessments as per your training.
- Perform skills as specified in the Skill Checklist for Nursing Assistant Trainees, ensuring you meet the specific needs of patients across various age groups.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to review care plans.
- Participate in hourly patient rounds as directed by nursing leadership.
- Handle clerical responsibilities related to patient admissions, discharges, and medical record maintenance.
- Measure and document patient vital signs, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration rates.
- Observe and communicate patient responses to treatments and interventions, ensuring timely documentation.
- Assist patients with daily living activities, utilizing effective communication principles when interacting with patients, families, and team members.
- Support patient care initiatives, including feeding and companionship.
- Engage in transporting patients and addressing their therapy and educational needs.
- Adhere to isolation protocols as required.
- Provide assistance in pre- and post-procedural care as assigned.
- Aid in wound care, including dressing and bandaging.
- Help with patient mobility, including transferring and ambulating patients.
Qualifications
- Enrollment in an accredited practical nursing program is essential.
- Must demonstrate the necessary education, training, or experience to work with adult and/or geriatric patient populations as needed.
- Proof of continuous enrollment in an approved practical nursing program is required to maintain your position.
Additional Requirements
- Current CPR/BLS certification is mandatory.
- Experience in patient care or equivalent on-the-job training from an accredited practical nursing program is necessary.
Physical Demands
- Constantly standing, walking, and talking.
- Frequently handling, grasping, and hearing.
- Occasionally lifting, climbing, and balancing.
- Must possess good eye/hand/foot coordination and be able to perform repetitive motions.
