Overview:

The role of the School Nutrition Operations Supervisor - Trainee is vital in ensuring the smooth functioning of the school cafeteria. This position involves overseeing staff members, managing food orders and supplies, and coordinating food planning, preparation, and service. The supervisor will also be responsible for the operation of point-of-sale systems and financial reporting, while performing related duties as necessary. The role may extend to providing food services for multiple satellite locations or managing a cluster of schools, particularly in high-volume settings. Compliance with all relevant District and Board policies, as well as State and Federal regulations, is essential.

Minimum Qualifications:

Trainee Requirements: A High School diploma or GED is required, along with two (2) years of experience in institutional food service and supervisory experience in food service. The candidate must achieve ServSafe certification or complete the Tennessee Department of Education - Food Safety and Schools Certificate Program within one year. Successful completion of one year with ServSafe certification will lead to promotion from trainee to Supervisor of School Nutrition. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).

Degree Equivalency:

Bachelor's Degree = 4 years plus required years of experience.
Master's Degree = 2 years plus required years of experience. For positions requiring a Master's degree, years of experience for Bachelor's degrees must be included.

Definitions:

Cluster School: A cafeteria serving fewer than 250 meals that cannot financially support a supervisor, located within a two (2) mile radius that can serve as the base school.
Satellite School: A school where the Food Source Authority is Shelby County Schools, including charter, private, and parochial schools.
Supper Program: A program providing afterschool supper meals for Extended Learning Opportunities or At-Risk Supper to students.
Breakfast in the Classroom: A program that offers breakfast to the entire student body or multiple grades within the school.
