Position Overview:

As a Lead Labor Law Advisor at The Ladders, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our organization adheres to all labor laws and regulations. Your primary focus will be to navigate and resolve intricate employee-related legal matters, ensuring our practices align with legal standards and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal counsel to management on labor and employment law issues, including updates in regulations and potential liabilities.
  • Oversee external legal counsel as required.
  • Labor Law Expertise: Serve as the organization’s authority on labor law matters, encompassing wage and hour laws, workplace safety, anti-discrimination policies, and union relations. Stay informed about legislative developments and proactively adjust company policies accordingly.
  • Policy Formulation: Develop, review, and enhance policies to ensure clarity, effectiveness, and compliance with labor laws. Formulate strategies to mitigate risks and uphold ethical standards in employee interactions.
  • Compliance Audits: Conduct comprehensive audits of HR and operational practices to ensure compliance with applicable laws. Establish regular monitoring protocols to identify potential compliance issues early.
  • Investigative Oversight: Manage investigations into complaints and allegations of labor law violations. Ensure timely and legally compliant resolutions, prioritizing a fair and respectful workplace.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain thorough records of compliance activities, documenting identified issues and resolution steps. Regularly report to senior management on compliance initiatives and ongoing matters.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with HR and legal teams to ensure a unified approach to labor law compliance throughout the organization. Serve as a liaison with external regulatory agencies as necessary.
  • eCommerce Compliance: Ensure that our online platform adheres to all relevant local, national, and international laws concerning online business operations, including consumer protection and digital marketing.
  • Data Protection: Oversee the implementation of data privacy strategies in accordance with GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant regulations. Ensure the secure handling and processing of customer data to maintain privacy and trust.
  • Policy Development: Review and enhance company policies and procedures to ensure compliance with labor laws at all levels.
  • Training and Guidance: Provide training and support to HR and management on labor law matters.
  • Legal Monitoring: Stay updated on labor law developments and recommend proactive measures to minimize legal risks.
Qualifications:
  • Admitted to practice law in the state of California.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or Juris Doctor (JD) with a focus on labor law is highly desirable.
  • Experience: At least 7 years of experience in a compliance role, specifically in labor law and employee relations. Proven experience in conducting workplace investigations and managing labor disputes is essential.
  • Certifications: Professional certification in labor law compliance (e.g., Certified Labor Relations Professional (CLRP)) is preferred.
  • Skills: In-depth knowledge of California and Federal labor regulations and compliance frameworks. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to handle sensitive issues with discretion.
Work Environment:
  • This role is office-based with standard working hours, but may require additional hours and travel based on operational needs.

Compensation: In addition to various forms of compensation such as benefits, the estimated salary range for this position is $157,369 - $234,256 USD per year. The final offer will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors including skill set, experience, geographical location, market conditions, and organizational needs. The company reserves the right to adjust the salary range for various reasons, including business requirements.
