We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Breastfeeding Support Specialist to join our team at Children's National Hospital. As a key member of our WIC program, you will provide essential breastfeeding education and support to pregnant and breastfeeding women, empowering them to achieve a successful breastfeeding experience.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individualized breastfeeding support and education to pregnant and breastfeeding women through clinic visits, hospital visits, home visits, and regular telephone contacts.
- Respond to inquiries for breastfeeding support and refer mothers to the WIC nutrition team, lactation specialist, or private physician as needed.
- Facilitate breastfeeding classes and support groups to promote a supportive community for breastfeeding mothers.
- Maintain accurate records and follow up notes in the CARES system, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to program protocols.
- Collaborate with WIC staff to promote breastfeeding through special projects and other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 6 months of breastfeeding experience
- Current or prior enrollment in the WIC program as a breastfeeding mother (preferred)
- Experience in a healthcare setting (preferred)
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, customer service skills, and ability to work under moderate supervision
