Job Summary:

The Lactation Consultant at Chase Brexton Health Care provides patient-centered lactation support services based on specialty training and an interdisciplinary approach. This role assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates lactation plans for breastfeeding/chest-feeding dyads and pumping parents, collaborating with the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides lactation assessment, management, education, and instruction through prenatal education and postpartum consultative care.
  • Assists patients in obtaining breast pumps, if needed.
  • Designs interventions to meet individual patient needs, considering literacy, preferred language, and social and emotional environments.
  • Assesses barriers and assets that may affect lactation outcomes.

Patient Focus:

  • Demonstrates professionalism and integrity in patient care.
  • Effectively engages patients in their care.
  • Addresses patient concerns and documents assessment and plan.
  • Integrates lactational interventions with the OB team to address biopsychosocial concerns.
  • Follows up with patients to evaluate intervention efficacy and address ongoing needs.

Teamwork:

  • Fosters a collaborative work environment.
  • Functions as the primary clinical lactation consultant for CBHC.
  • Works with peers to improve workflow and the workplace.
  • Participates in warm handoffs and education during group prenatal visits.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary programs to promote lactation support and breastfeeding rates.

Communication:

  • Returns patient calls within 2 working days.
  • Informs OB RN and primary OB provider of lactation interventions.
  • Keeps the OB team informed of lactation service developments.
  • Provides direction to the organization regarding lactation services.

Requirements:

  • Active Board Certified International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification (IBCLC).
  • 1+ years' experience as a lactation consultant.
