Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Administrative Director to lead the San Diego Center for AIDS Research (SD CFAR) and The HIV Institute (THI) at the University of California. The successful candidate will have a strong background in research administration, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the SD CFAR and THI, ensuring alignment with the University's research goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement effective management techniques and executive-level judgment to provide leadership in defining the direction, goals, and requirements of the scientific collaboration and agenda between NIH, local and national institutions, and local investigators.
  • Work closely with Principal Investigators, cores (labs), and clinical cores locally to advance research projects and initiatives.
  • Develop and manage budgets, oversee financial planning, and ensure compliance with University and NIH regulations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders to advance research collaborations and funding opportunities.
  • Develop and implement quality control, quality assurance, and program evaluation systems to ensure the highest standards of research excellence.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study and seven or more years of relevant experience, or eleven years of combined experience, education, and training.
  • Academic or research administration background and recognized expertise in selected areas.
  • Expert oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present recommendations or information to individuals or groups in a persuasive, motivational manner.
  • Leadership experience in relevant academic and/or government research agencies, with a proven track record of managing complex research programs and budgets.
  • Strong fundraising experience, with the ability to develop and implement successful fundraising strategies.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and diverse environment.
