The Los Angeles LGBT Center is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Peer Regional Coordination Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Youth Services department, you will play a critical role in supporting outreach to key partners, facilitating regular meetings, and engaging with youth and youth boards.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and cultivate relationships with traditional and non-traditional homeless service youth and young adult serving organizations.
- Work collaboratively with other entities serving the youth population, including DMH, DHS, LACOE, DPSS, DCFS, and P3, to ensure youth are being identified, connected, and served without barriers.
- Build capacity as it relates to non-CoC funded services for homeless participants and expand the participation of privately funded and faith-based service providers and community stakeholders.
- Provide system leadership and infrastructure support by implementing policies and practices, attending monthly regional coordination meetings, and representing the CES at relevant regional meetings related to homelessness.
- Support the continued development of currently existing interagency relationships to close system gaps and make SPA 4's housing system more effective.
- Provide CES system support and leadership centering youth perspective and experience.
- Participate in providing feedback of youth experience and data collection methods to better represent the needs of youth members in the CES system.
- Ensure that all CES funded and other leveraged programs are functioning in alignment to create a seamless system of care for youth and young adults experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles County.
- Coordinate youth-led trainings for providers and stakeholders.
- Represent youth interests and lead youth advocacy opportunities across SPA 4 by facilitating quarterly meetings of SPA 4 youth groups, participating in events for youth to promote awareness of resources and engagement in services, and engaging and connecting peer workers across SPA 4.
- Collaborate with outside community-based LGBT, youth, and homeless services organizations to meet the needs of members.
- Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
- A passion for the Center's work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
- Previous lived experience accessing services in a youth homeless services agency, required.
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting LGBTQ youth, including experience working with high-risk youth (specific work with gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and/or runaway youth, a plus).
- A minimum of 1 year of work experience in related field, specifically working with youth experiencing homelessness/housing instability, foster youth, and/or mental illness, low-income, or individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Be able and willing to work flexible hours which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Knowledge of housing-first, harm-reduction, trauma-informed care principles.
- Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflict, including dealing with uncooperative clients.
- Ability to apply principles of professional boundaries and ethics to on-the-job situations.
- Ability to engage youth in activities and facilitate workshops.
- Bilingual skills, a plus (English/Spanish fluency preferred, American Sign Language fluency, a plus).
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
