Job Overview

Position Objective:

The Field Equipment Maintenance Specialist will be tasked with the installation and repair of malfunctioning or worn equipment at client locations. This role involves adhering to technical blueprints and manufacturer guidelines while applying expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. The specialist will also conduct operational tests to confirm that production quality and efficiency align with established standards.

Key Responsibilities:

● Execute repairs, maintenance, and commissioning of stretch wrappers, shrink wrappers, case sealers, case erectors, label printer/applicators, strapping machinery, and various other products at both client and Veritiv facilities.
● Collaborate with customers, manufacturers, suppliers, and fellow service professionals to address machine issues and facilitate comprehensive system integrations.
● Conduct a range of intricate electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical evaluations, repairs, and maintenance on equipment, assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications.
● Carry out setup calibration, testing, mechanical assembly, and troubleshooting of circuits, components, and instruments using moderately complex blueprints and electrical schematics.
● Provide expertise, training, and product demonstrations on Veritiv packaging systems and associated equipment as required.
● Prepare quotes and estimates for preventative and scheduled maintenance of machinery.
● Complete field service work orders, ensuring timely and accurate billing for travel, labor hours, parts, and related expenses.

Additional Qualifications:

● In-depth knowledge of electrical schematics, symbols, and power flow within circuits. Proficient in lockout/tagout and safety protocols.
● Capable of installing, troubleshooting, training, and servicing a wide range of equipment, including semi-automatic systems.
● Proficient in interpreting pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical diagrams for complex installations and troubleshooting of equipment offered by Veritiv.
● Familiarity with AC and DC voltages and skilled in using electric meters for troubleshooting purposes.
● Strong troubleshooting abilities in diagnosing and resolving issues related to micro-logic devices, electrical systems, pneumatic components, and PLC ladder logic.
● Knowledgeable in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), capable of writing basic logic, interfacing with equipment, and making simple program modifications. Completion of formal PLC training is preferred.
● Certifications from manufacturer training on stretch wrappers, shrink wrappers, case sealers, case erectors, label printers, and strapping equipment or similar products are advantageous.
● Minimum of 3 years of experience in a service support role.

  • Must hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to travel overnight, including long-distance driving and air travel.

Compensation: Salary Range: $63,600 - $70,700

Experience Requirements:

● 5-10 years of relevant experience.
● Ability to manage multiple projects, perform under pressure, and adapt to sudden changes in the work environment.
● Quick and efficient work capabilities.
● Comprehensive understanding of distribution management, including customer service, sales, purchasing, warehousing, credit, information systems, and logistics, preferably from a large or decentralized organization.
● Basic knowledge of simple office and operational systems.
● Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills are essential.
● Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
● Strong planning and organizational skills are necessary.

Educational Background:

● High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
The requirements listed below are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
● Ability to lift and handle parts weighing up to 75 pounds.
● Must be able to work in industrial settings, including climbing ladders and lifts at various heights, as well as working in confined spaces beneath equipment.
● Must be adaptable to various environments, including fast-paced industrial and food production settings.
