Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Airport Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Specialist to join our team at the City of Dayton. As a key member of our emergency response team, you will be responsible for providing fire prevention and suppression services to all City of Dayton Aviation facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directs protection operations to minimize loss of life and property and to ensure emergency medical and rescue services are provided as needed.
  • Provides emergency care for people when warranted and provides rescue efforts involving aircraft passengers and crew members.
  • Directs the emergency responses to fire alarms, aircraft alerts, and hazardous material incidents.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Science or related field AND 4 years firefighting experience, with at least 1 year as an Aircraft Rescue Firefighter OR
  • Associate degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, Business Management, Emergency Medical Services or a related field AND 4 years firefighting experience, with at least 3 years as an Aircraft Rescue Firefighter, at time of application OR
  • High School Diploma (or G.E.D) AND 8 years as an Aircraft Rescue Firefighter.
Special Requirements
  • State of Ohio Level II Firefighter certification AND a valid State of Ohio Emergency Medical Technician Certification (EMT) at time of appointment.
  • Within one year of appointment, must obtain and maintain the following certifications: Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certification, Hazardous Materials Operations, Ohio Fire Instructor I, Ohio Fire Officer I and Ohio Fire Officer II.
  • Must complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) training 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800 within one year of appointment.
  • Must complete recurrent ARFF training in accordance with FAR.
  • Must obtain State of Ohio Paramedic Certification within 30 months.
  • Must obtain an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification to maintain employment.
