Job Overview

The position of Library Page is situated within the Collections Care unit of NYPL Conservation, which is dedicated to the preservation and accessibility of extensive research collections.

This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in a vibrant conservation environment that includes two primary units: Collections Care and Special Collections Conservation. The NYPL Conservation team comprises skilled conservators and technicians who specialize in various materials, including bound volumes, flat items, and photographic collections. The division is committed to providing conservation assessments, treatments, custom enclosures, research, and training to enhance the preservation of the library's vast collection while supporting active access, exhibitions, loans, digitization, and acquisitions.

The Library Page is responsible for executing fundamental stabilization, treatment, and rehousing of collections, receiving training from the Conservation staff.

This position is designed for a maximum of 19 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with schedules that may vary based on library requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Collections Care Supervisor, the Library Page will:

  • Create custom protective enclosures for collections using both machine methods (CAD software) and manual techniques.
  • Receive collections dispatched from research centers and prepare them for transportation.
  • Maintain work statistics and provide necessary administrative support.
  • Assist in the upkeep of the Collections Care laboratory.
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned, including basic stabilization of collections following appropriate training.
Required Education, Experience & SkillsRequired Education & Experience
  • Current enrollment in an accredited degree program.
  • Possession of a valid employment certificate for minors under 18, as mandated by state law.
Required Skills
  • Proficiency in CAD software or packaging design software.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity and attention to detail, coupled with efficiency.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and manage independent projects.
  • Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
