About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for leading studies and research activities to advance the state of the art in high temperature structural and thermal protection materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Research Activities: Conduct and lead studies to advance the state of the art in high temperature structural and thermal protection materials, thermal survivability, and thermal-structural analysis.
  • Provide Technical Contributions: Provide technical contributions and leadership in the design and analysis of new materials and structures for the development of strike weapon systems.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Collaborate regularly with Government sponsors, industry partners, and key Laboratory program and technical staff on activities related to the development and analysis of radome systems.
  • Prepare Technical Documents: Prepare written documents and presentations of technical work.
  • Lead and Mentor Engineer Teams: Lead and mentor engineer teams to ensure successful project execution.
Qualifications
  • Education: Possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other relevant technical field.
  • Experience: Have 3+ years of relevant experience in high temperature (>1000C) structural and thermal protection materials, thermal analysis, and thermal testing.
  • Skills: Have experience in using structural/thermal simulation software and be able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Possess a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other relevant technical field.
  • Experience: Have 5+ years of relevant experience in high temperature structural and thermal protection materials, thermal analysis, and thermal testing.
  • Skills: Have proficiency in using structural/thermal simulation software, demonstrated technical leadership of small teams, and hold an Active Top Secret clearance.
