The Stanford Blood Center is dedicated to enhancing human health through the advancement of innovative radiotracers that support early disease detection and treatment. The Research Scientist will play a pivotal role in the formulation and implementation of both clinical and preclinical research objectives within the center. This position will operate under the guidance of the facility manager, addressing the radiochemistry program's requirements, which encompass both routine and groundbreaking radiotracer development, production, troubleshooting, and the facilitation of clinical radiotracer applications.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in radiochemistry or a related scientific discipline (e.g., chemistry) with a minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of radiochemistry, particularly in 18F/11C or radiometal radiolabeling methodologies and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in setting up, operating, maintaining, cleaning, and calibrating automated and semi-automated radiopharmaceutical manufacturing and quality control systems.
  • Proficient in radiotracer quality control methods, including High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), gas chromatography (GC), and radioactivity detection techniques.
  • Ability to adhere to established radiation safety protocols while developing and executing approved radiochemistry production processes.
  • Collaborative experience in providing data to support Chemical Manufacturing and Control (CMC) documentation for IND (Investigational New Drug) submissions to the FDA.
  • General computer proficiency, experience with databases, cloud storage solutions, and the capability to quickly learn various scientific software applications (e.g., Chemstation, Tracerlab, Chromeleon).
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

DESIRED:

  • Expertise in operating, optimizing, and troubleshooting automated radiosynthesis platforms, preferably GE FX N and/or FX C series modules.
  • Previous experience with cyclotron operations is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with USP or standards for Radiopharmaceutical Drug Production.
  • Experience in supervisory roles, particularly in training students in experimental procedures.
