Role Summary: The Senior Credit Officer is responsible for preparing comprehensive credit analysis documents for executive management and the Board. This role involves identifying potential risks, evaluating financial metrics, and ensuring adherence to policy requirements. A critical aspect of this position is to assess a borrower's credit risks and provide a detailed evaluation of the organization's capacity to mitigate these risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with lending officers and portfolio managers to analyze proposed lending transactions, crafting written credit analyses to facilitate approval processes for new loans, renewals, modifications, and annual reviews.
  • Conduct in-depth analyses and offer appropriate credit structure recommendations for both new and existing complex credits.
  • Perform credit evaluations on intricate relationships, including Commercial & Industrial (C&I), Commercial Investment Real Estate, Owner-occupied, and Residential Construction clients.
  • Work autonomously with minimal oversight from Credit Managers on most commercial loan underwriting requests, determining when complex credit requests necessitate managerial guidance.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the organization's Commercial Lending Policy and apply it effectively to loan approval requests.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of SBA program guidelines to ensure compliance.
  • Contribute to the accuracy of the Bank's commercial loan rating system by applying risk rating definitions to proposed transactions.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to junior credit analysts.
  • Assist in preparing reports for monitoring credit quality as directed by senior management.
  • Support various credit risk management activities, including audits, loan reviews, and regulatory compliance.
  • Engage in joint client meetings with lending officers when appropriate.
  • Contribute to effective team management of projects and opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting, or a minimum of 5 years of experience in banking or financial services.
  • Completion of a formal credit training program or at least 5 years of experience as a credit analyst.
  • Extensive experience in preparing and editing credit analyses and related documents.
  • Proven ability to gather, analyze, and present well-supported commercial loan approval recommendations for large and complex C&I and CRE transactions.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey credit and business issues to stakeholders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple underwriting assignments simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of commercial lending operations and regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and the ability to quickly adapt to digital platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating effective project and time management skills.
