Position Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer serves as a strategic partner to the Area President, focusing on division operations, enhancing processes, and optimizing financial outcomes. This role acts as the primary financial liaison for Area/Division Presidents, department leaders, and other division staff, ensuring effective communication between divisions and executive management. The CFO is responsible for delivering precise and timely financial insights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and oversees the execution of the division's annual and revised homebuilding budgets.
  • Enhances operational results related to profit margins, net income, and return on investment by concentrating on division investments, pricing strategies, and cost management.
  • Ensures that all division policies and procedures foster efficiency, adherence to internal controls, and the overall success of the division.
  • Evaluates potential land acquisitions to ensure they contribute positively to the division's investment strategy.
  • Monitors land budgets, change orders, job costs, and reserves to ensure budget accuracy.
  • Maintains the integrity and reliability of backlog data.
  • Collaborates with the purchasing team to oversee direct construction costs and job cost discrepancies.
  • Analyzes monthly financial reports and provides strategic guidance on the division's financial health.
  • Oversees balance sheet items, including land and homebuilding work in progress, escrows, and accruals.
  • Manages accounts payable staff and other division personnel as needed.
  • Assists Corporate Accounting with compliance related to Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.
  • Supports IT initiatives with the implementation of information systems.
  • Provides assistance to Area Presidents, Region Presidents, and corporate teams on special projects.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in the industry, along with a Bachelor's Degree. A CPA or background in public accounting is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Comprehensive understanding of homebuilding operations and financial practices, including job costing, budgeting, and strategic planning.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, time-management, and organizational abilities.
  • Detail-oriented and self-sufficient, capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong decision-making skills and the ability to solve problems effectively in a minimally guided environment.
  • Comfortable collaborating closely with senior management and corporate executives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

Work Environment:

This position may require travel and necessitates a valid driver's license.
