Job Overview

Position Title: Physical Therapy Assistant

Supervised by: Physical Therapist or Rehabilitation Director

Role Summary: The Physical Therapy Assistant delivers therapeutic services under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist, adhering to the prescribed care plan set forth by the physician or authorized healthcare provider.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient Support:

  1. Administers physical therapy interventions as directed by the supervising physical therapist, following the established care plan.
  2. Facilitates patient recovery by alleviating discomfort, enhancing or restoring physical function, and ensuring optimal performance levels.
  3. Guides patients through both active and passive therapeutic exercises, muscle reeducation, mobility training, and assistance with assistive devices.
  4. Employs various physical modalities, including but not limited to thermal applications, hydrotherapy, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, and manual therapy techniques.
  5. Educates patients on the proper use and maintenance of mobility aids, such as wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes, and orthotic devices.
  6. Completes additional tasks as assigned by the supervising therapist.

Communication and Documentation:

  1. Monitors and communicates patient responses to treatment and any notable changes in their condition to the supervising therapist and relevant healthcare staff.
  2. Maintains accurate documentation, including clinical notes and progress reports, ensuring timely updates to the patient's medical records.
  3. Engages in team meetings and participates in ongoing educational programs offered by the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Completion of an accredited physical therapy assistant program, resulting in an Associate's degree in science or applied science recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association.

2. Current certification in CPR.

3. Valid certification or licensure as mandated by state regulations.

4. Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable, insured vehicle.

REQUIRED SKILLS

1. Ability to lift, push, or pull weights ranging from 15 to 20 pounds regularly, with the capacity to manage heavier loads as necessary.

· Capability to perform various physical activities, including sitting, standing, walking, and moving throughout the workday.

· Willingness to travel to patient locations as well as the agency office.

· Resilience to handle the mental and emotional demands associated with the role.
