Job Overview

Objective: To execute all tasks related to crafting premium beverages promptly, courteously, and efficiently, while ensuring a well-stocked and visually appealing salad bar. This role is essential in meeting departmental objectives concerning sales, profit margins, staffing, and outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

I. General Duties

  • Adhere to the Core Values as outlined by East End Cooperative Inc.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to patrons and colleagues alike.
  • Clearly articulate the Co-op's mission and membership process.
  • Maintain familiarity with store layout, offerings, and services.
  • Understand emergency protocols and procedures.
  • Stay informed about current communications, policies, and updates within the store and department.
  • Comply with Co-op policies as specified in the Employee Handbook.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the evolving demands of the role.

II. Food Preparation and Production

  • Ensure that food quality, quantity, freshness, and presentation align with Café standards.
  • Prevent cross-contamination between food allergens and ensure sanitized practices.
  • Efficiently prepare all assigned counter items based on demand.
  • Follow recipes accurately and utilize proper measuring tools during food preparation.
  • Verify that all cooked ingredients meet quality standards and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating recipes and production lists, reporting any discrepancies.
  • Remove expired or subpar items and accurately document losses.
  • Keep the salad bar fresh, full, and visually appealing.
  • Ensure displays are well-stocked and properly rotated for freshness.
  • Package, weigh, and price Grab and Go items neatly and accurately.
  • Maintain organized and attractive displays throughout the shift.
  • Ensure all labeling and signage are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Check the Special Orders board at the start of each shift to fulfill prep and production needs.
  • Notify the Café Manager or Supervisors of supply requirements.
  • Consistently complete all checklists, logs, and records to uphold operational standards.
  • Create and communicate daily production lists to the kitchen staff.
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols in accordance with East End Cooperative Inc. policies.
  • Follow Weights and Measures procedures diligently.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of food preparation costs as directed.
  • Research and propose new recipes to Supervisors.
  • Support other food production tasks as assigned.

III. Maintenance, Sanitation, and Safety

  • Keep work and sales areas clean, organized, and safe throughout the shift.
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols as per East End Cooperative Inc. standards.
  • Follow proper storage and labeling procedures in the kitchen at all times.
  • Complete daily cleaning tasks accurately.
  • Manage waste disposal, recycling, and composting as needed.
  • Operate all equipment safely and report any repair needs to management.
  • Use knives and other equipment safely in compliance with café policies.
  • Assist with additional maintenance tasks as required.

IV. Communication and Collaboration

  • Maintain clear and effective communication with Café and other department staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Protect the confidentiality of all Café recipes.
  • Engage with customers in a friendly and prompt manner, directing them to other staff when necessary.

Qualifications:

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a café, restaurant, coffee shop, juice bar, or customer service role.
  • Enjoyment in interacting with and serving the public.
  • Friendly, outgoing personality with a positive demeanor.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining composure.
  • Professional appearance and conduct.
  • Capacity to perform routine tasks accurately and safely.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organized and methodical approach to tasks.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to work with urgency to meet deadlines.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Interest in preparing natural, organic, and vegetarian dishes.
  • Familiarity with natural foods and quality food preparation techniques.
  • Manual dexterity with kitchen equipment.
  • Willingness to taste various products to enhance knowledge.
  • Ability to work in close quarters with others.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment with varying conditions.
  • Physical ability to stand or walk for extended periods and lift heavy items safely.

Desired Skills:

  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of quality food production and cooking techniques.
  • Experience with knife skills and proper cutting methods.
