Job Overview

Objective: To execute all tasks related to crafting high-quality beverages swiftly, courteously, and efficiently, while ensuring a fresh and visually appealing salad bar. To play a key role in achieving departmental objectives for sales, margins, labor, and outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

I. General Duties

  • Adhere to the Core Values outlined by East End Cooperative Inc.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to patrons and colleagues alike.
  • Clearly communicate the Co-op's mission and membership process.
  • Possess familiarity with store layout, products, and services.
  • Understand emergency protocols and procedures.
  • Stay informed about current communications, policies, and updates.
  • Comply with Co-op policies as detailed in the Employee Handbook.
  • Exhibit a willingness to learn and adapt to the evolving demands of the role.

II. Food Preparation and Production

  • Ensure that food quality, quantity, freshness, and presentation align with Café standards.
  • Prevent cross-contamination between food allergens and ensure sanitized surfaces.
  • Efficiently prepare all assigned Counter items based on demand.
  • Utilize correct measuring devices and adhere to recipes meticulously.
  • Verify that all cooked ingredients are prepared correctly and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating Counter recipes and production lists.
  • Remove expired or subpar items and accurately document losses.
  • Maintain a fresh, full, and attractive salad bar.
  • Ensure displays are appealing by keeping cases well-stocked and rotated.
  • Accurately package, weigh, and price Grab and Go items neatly.
  • Maintain organized and visually appealing displays throughout the shift.
  • Ensure department labeling and signage are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Check the Special Orders board at the start of each shift to fulfill orders accurately.
  • Notify the Café Manager or Supervisors of any supply needs.
  • Consistently complete all checklists, logs, and records to uphold quality processes.
  • Create and communicate daily production lists to the prep or hot cook.
  • Follow health and safety protocols according to company policies and health standards.
  • Adhere to all Weights and Measures procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of preparation costs as directed.
  • Research and propose new recipes to Supervisors.
  • Support other food production tasks as directed.

III. Maintenance, Sanitation, and Safety

  • Keep work and sales areas clean, organized, and safe throughout the shift.
  • Follow health and safety protocols according to company policies and health standards.
  • Adhere to storage and labeling procedures in the kitchen at all times.
  • Ensure daily cleaning tasks are completed accurately.
  • Manage waste disposal, recycling, and composting as needed.
  • Operate all equipment safely and report any repair needs to the Café Manager or Supervisors.
  • Use knives and other equipment safely, following company policies.
  • Assist with maintenance tasks as directed.

IV. Communication and Collaboration

  • Maintain clear communication with Café and other department staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Keep all Café recipes confidential.
  • Engage with customers promptly and courteously, referring them to other staff when necessary.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a café, restaurant, coffee house, juice bar, or customer service role.
  • Enjoyment in interacting with and serving the public.
  • Friendly, outgoing personality with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while remaining calm.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Capacity to perform routine tasks accurately and safely.
