About the Opportunity

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Bilingual Instructional Support Specialist. This role will play a critical part in supporting the academic success of English language learners in our district.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist classroom teachers in delivering instructional programs tailored to meet the specific needs of English language learners.
  • Work closely with individuals or small groups of students under the direction and supervision of classroom teachers.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of State Academic Standards and the district's Scope and Sequence, as well as relevant guides, manuals, and supplemental materials.
  • Collaborate with teachers to prepare materials that support instruction or tutoring, differentiating instruction based on the needs of English language learners.
  • Assist teachers in preparing special activities, such as field trips, cultural festivals, and bulletin boards that showcase the culture of second-language learners.
  • Support teachers and the Multilingual Multicultural Education Office in providing accommodations during the administration of required standardized tests.
  • Contribute to the development of bilingual instructional materials.
  • Provide oral and written translations and interpretations to facilitate home-school communications.
  • Support school and staff with parent involvement and training activities.
  • Participate in in-service and professional development activities assigned by the Multilingual Multicultural Education Office or building principals.
  • Follow the daily schedule, rules, and regulations of the Multilingual Multicultural Education Office or building principals.
  • Maintain records of services provided to students and prepare required reports.
  • Exercise initiative and anticipate the needs of students.
Requirements
  • Completed a minimum of 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours via college transcripts or a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing English as well as the native language of the Limited English Proficient students assigned to service.
  • At least three years of experience (voluntary or paid) with students or in an educational setting.
  • Possess or be eligible for an Ohio Educational Aide Permit.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, motivation, exceptional resourcefulness, willingness to work flexibly and cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Excellent customer service skills, tact, and good verbal communication.
  • High expectations and a willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty for CMSD children.
  • Current languages needed include: Spanish, Dari/Pashto, Swahili, and Ukrainian.
