Primary Responsibilities

The Respiratory Therapist I is responsible for delivering both routine and advanced Respiratory Therapy services to patients across various age groups, including adults, pediatrics, and neonates. This role encompasses work in critical care environments, with opportunities for specialized training available.

Under the guidance of senior respiratory care professionals, the therapist will take on responsibilities related to the provision of comprehensive respiratory care during patient transport and inpatient treatment. Following the completion of necessary clinical training, the therapist will apply advanced skills in respiratory care.

Key Duties Include:

  • Performing respiratory therapy procedures for diverse patient populations.
  • Engaging in educational initiatives, including training new staff and conducting in-service sessions on emerging technologies and techniques.
  • Providing exceptional customer service and fostering effective communication with healthcare team members and patients.
  • Flexibility to work in various areas of the health system, including potential rotating shifts.

Compensation: $60.98 per hour

Qualifications:

Mandatory for NICU Department:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in a NICU setting.
  • Proficiency with high-frequency ventilators, including HFOV or HFJV.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent experience with neonatal intubation.
  • Competence in the use of oscillators and nitric oxide therapy for neonates.
  • Willingness to provide care for both adult and pediatric patients.

Educational Background:

  • Graduation from an accredited two-year Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field is required; Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • State Respiratory Care Practitioner License in California is required.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred.

Essential Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of current respiratory therapy practices.
  • Ability to organize tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact positively with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Proficiency in setting up, monitoring, and troubleshooting respiratory equipment.
  • Capability to prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality patient care and maintaining confidentiality.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand or walk for 75% of a 12-hour shift.
  • Capability to lift and transfer patients weighing at least 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, and carrying a minimum of 35 lbs.
