Position Overview

The Senior Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator will provide strategic leadership for a clinical team engaged in multiple complex oncology clinical trials and research initiatives within the Duke Cancer Institute's Breast Clinical Research Program. The Oncology Clinical Research Unit is responsible for overseeing the execution of research activities.

Key Responsibilities

Operations, Study, and Site Management - 20% Effort
  • Implement strategies to enhance participant recruitment and retention, addressing individual participant needs. Supervise the collection of data for evaluating study feasibility and recruitment strategies, identifying issues, and designing effective solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator and study team to facilitate participant recruitment and enrollment, ensuring proper documentation of consent.
  • Coordinate study activities for direct reports to ensure successful study implementation, identifying and resolving study-related challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional requirements and policies, maintaining accurate study documentation, including regulatory binders and enrollment logs.
  • Lead the development of essential plans such as Conflict of Interest, Data Safety Monitoring Plans, and Research Data Security Plans.
  • Oversee financial aspects of studies, including participant care expenses and budget development, ensuring accurate reporting of financial milestones.

Communication - 20% Effort

Act as a subject matter expert on research conduct, fostering collaboration and clear communication with study personnel. Address concerns professionally and respond promptly to inquiries.

Data Management - 10% Effort
  • Identify and address issues related to data capture and management, ensuring data security and integrity.
  • Review data entry for accuracy, proposing solutions for any discrepancies to maintain data quality.

Leadership - 25% Effort
  • Cultivate a team culture that promotes open communication, motivation, and creativity while ensuring fair application of human resource policies.
  • Supervise and manage assigned staff, overseeing their daily responsibilities, performance evaluations, and professional development.
  • Provide clear goals and monitor staff performance, facilitating cross-training and compliance with standard operating procedures.

Ethics - 10% Effort
  • Clarify professional guidelines and ethical standards for clinical research among study teams.
  • Adhere to policies and regulations governing clinical research, maintaining necessary training and certification.

RN Responsibilities - 15% Effort

Function within the professional capacity of a licensed RN in research settings, providing guidance and training to nursing staff as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited BSN or Associates Degree in Nursing program is required. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing are encouraged to enroll in a BSN program within two years of their start date. Current RN licensure in North Carolina is mandatory.

Experience: A minimum of twelve months of relevant clinical experience, along with four years of research experience, is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in oncology or clinical research is highly desirable.
