Overview of the Role

The **Plant Maintenance Lead** is responsible for ensuring optimal functionality of all facility equipment through proactive maintenance strategies, diagnosing issues, and resolving maintenance challenges across various systems (mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, etc.). This role involves assigning daily tasks and repairs while offering both technical and hands-on support.

The individual will be accountable for keeping the facility in a productive, functional, and safe operational condition. Responsibilities include executing the preventive maintenance schedule for cranes, machinery motors, and associated equipment, as well as managing routine adjustments and addressing unique challenges as they arise. Close collaboration with supervisors and superintendents is essential to effectively resolve maintenance concerns.

Moreover, the individual is tasked with maintaining several reports, including maintenance downtime logs, work request logs, and documenting any modifications made to master plans.

In addition to technical responsibilities, this role includes various employee-related duties such as conducting performance evaluations, making recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, and termination of staff. Keeping attendance records and providing training and orientation are also key responsibilities. Effective communication of technical knowledge to delegate tasks to team members is crucial. Required technical expertise includes industrial hydraulics, understanding mechanical, piping, and structural blueprints, mechanical systems, water systems, rotating equipment, industrial automation, PLCs, and HMIs.

The primary challenges involve ensuring the efficient and safe operation of machinery. The ability to adapt to changes and make informed technical decisions to minimize downtime is vital. Any issues requiring significant financial investment or extended downtime must be approved by a superior.

Provide comprehensive support for the implementation and management of safety systems. Active participation in all accident and incident investigations within the designated area of responsibility is essential. Regular safety initiatives such as inspection tours, employee interactions, lockout audits, and contractor safety assessments must be conducted. Ensuring adherence to safety regulations and standards throughout work areas is a top priority.

The individual must fulfill the aforementioned responsibilities in accordance with all Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations. Employees are required to promptly report any situation that may impact human health or the environment to their immediate supervisor.

The Ideal Candidate
  • High School Diploma/GED required. Additional education, such as an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, is preferred but not mandatory with three years of supervisory and maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrate strong people management skills and the ability to train and guide employees.
  • Proficiency in industrial hydraulics, interpreting mechanical piping and structural drawings.
  • Experience with mechanical systems, water systems, and rotating equipment.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation, PLCs, and HMIs.
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, SAP, and PLEX.
