Position Overview

Job Summary: This role is crucial for managing a designated territory in the southeastern United States, which includes states such as Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The position demands extensive travel, approximately 75%, to cultivate and expand a new business territory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement underwriting strategies to maintain a profitable and high-quality surety portfolio.
  • Establish and grow a surety book of business through collaboration with assigned agencies and targeted new agency appointments.
  • Engage in significant travel to develop business in a territory with minimal existing surety operations.
  • Strengthen relationships with key accounts and enhance customer engagement.
  • Network within the surety and insurance community, attending industry events to stay informed on market trends and challenges.
  • Support other surety underwriters as necessary and undertake special projects as assigned.
  • Make informed decisions based on established policies and underwriting authority.
  • Utilize specialized knowledge to devise innovative solutions and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to customer experience standards by responding promptly and maintaining a positive demeanor.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in Surety Underwriting is essential.
  • Strong marketing acumen with a solid understanding of contract and commercial surety underwriting.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and resolve complex issues effectively.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging with individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Proficient negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities with a focus on prioritization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive approach.
  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding (AFSB) designation is highly desirable, or willingness to obtain within five years.
  • Proficiency in core systems and software applications relevant to the role.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in surety underwriting and marketing.
