Position Overview:

Under the guidance of the Deputy Controller for Public Affairs, the Public Affairs Operations Supervisor will take on a leadership role, assisting in the management of the daily functions of the Public Affairs Office. This includes organizing work assignments and ensuring they meet standards of consistency and accuracy. The individual will also oversee internal communication efforts, which encompass written, video, and digital formats, while aiding in the clarification and establishment of communication protocols for the department.

Key Responsibilities:
(Candidates are expected to fulfill the following duties with or without reasonable accommodations.)

Facilitate the communication initiatives of the State Controller's Office, under the direction of the Deputy Controller for Public Affairs; Design, integrate, and execute communication strategies to improve awareness and comprehension of the State Controller's responsibilities and services; Aid in recognizing public policies that influence the State Controller's Office and coordinate responses to policies that may affect the authority of the State Controller; Work alongside senior executive personnel to create internal communications and address inquiries from internal stakeholders; Assist in the formulation and execution of outreach and educational programs and materials; Develop and implement a program for employee recognition; Organize regular meetings with the Controller and staff; Maintain the communications calendar; Provide supervision to subordinate staff tasked with researching and drafting internal communications that convey the position of the State Controller; When necessary, support the Controller at significant public events or represent the Controller's interests; Travel to various locations as required in the execution of assigned duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

Exceptional writing and editing capabilities; Proven supervisory experience; Background in internal communications; Strategic mindset; Familiarity with California State Government's Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches; Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or Communications; Reliable and adaptable.
